Alberta Health and Wellness Launched a new STI strategy and public awareness campaign.
On May 24th, the Alberta Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP) Strategy and Action Plan 2011-2016 was released. This plan outlines specific objectives and target outcomes for each of the 5 identified strategic goals: increasing prevention of STI and BBP, improving early detection and diagnosis of STI and BBP, enhancing management and control of STI and BBP, strengthening support and counselling services for those infected and affected by STI and BBP, and strengthening infrastructure to support the Alberta STI and BBP strategy and action plan.
As part of the strategy, a province wide $2 million awareness campaign will educate the public about the risks of syphilis and other STIs, and provide information on STI symptoms, treatments, and clinic locations to obtain testing and counselling. Part 1 of the campaign has just been released, and part 2 of the campaign is expected to roll out in early June.
